Nikhil Mehta, MD

Specialty

Dr. Nikhil Mehta is a rare, multi-talented physician with board certification in Diagnostic Radiology and fellowship training in Neurointerventional Radiology, Vascular and Interventional Radiology, and Neuroradiology. He specializes in minimally invasive endovascular treatments for complex neurovascular and vascular diseases. His training in both neurointervention and vascular intervention has been complementary and allows him to bring a unique perspective to each specialty.

Dr. Mehta earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Ohio and finished his diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. Because of his wide range of interests, Dr. Mehta went on to complete three separate fellowship programs: Neuroradiology and Neurointerventional Radiology both at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. His Neurointerventional fellowship is one of a few that are CAST (Committee on Advanced Subspecialty Training) accredited.

Dr. Mehta has published articles in the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurocritical Care, and the Journal of the American College of Radiology. He has also contributed to book chapters on the endovascular treatment of complex peripheral arteriovenous malformations (AVM), aortic aneurysms, intracranial aneurysms, and peripheral vascular disease (PVD).

These diseases were traditionally treated with surgery, but with the continued evolution of minimally invasive techniques many patients can now go home within 24 hours of the procedure,” commented Dr. Mehta.

As Chief of Neurointerventional Radiology at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, Dr. Mehta is involved in educating residents and medical students. Dr. Mehta loves to stay on the cutting edge of both neurointervention and interventional radiology. He is currently involved in several research projects, including (spine, stroke, etc) using 3-D printing to model patients’ intracranial aneurysms in order to predict treatment response of the aneurysm after placement of the pipeline embolization device (PED).

He continues to innovate in the treatments of pulsatile tinnitus, IIH, intracranial aneurysms, and complex AV malformations of the face or body. Being able to draw from a peripheral, vascular, and neurointerventional toolbox with specialized skills, Dr. Mehta is equipped to treat complex vascular lesions that many people may not tackle.

We created Vascular and Interventional Partners to provide high-quality, university-level care to patients all over Arizona. Minimally invasive techniques continue to evolve and many clinicians and patients are not aware of what can be done with just a 1-2 mm incision! VIP truly provides a platform to reach out to clinicians and patients for both education and patient empowerment; I am excited to be a part of that outreach!
